Recognising the fact that only education  could lead the tribes to a bright future, Scheduled Tribes Development Department has been investing heavily on tribal educated institutions in Attappady. There is one Model Residential School(MRS) and 16 Pre-Matric hostels established in Attappady by Scheduled Tribes Development Department. This network of institutions caters to 1440 tribal children, Utmost care is taken to ensure good quality of education and the living standards are being constantly improved. Apart from this, a new Post-Matric hostel has been sanctioned recently. There are several schemes of Scheduled Tribes Development Department for the overall development of scheduled tribe children wchich includes Post-matric & prematric scholarships, supply of uniform, various educational grants, incentive to parents of students, assistance for brilliant students, assistance to study tour, tutorial scheme, and entrance coaching for  admission to professional courses ,skill development projects ,  supply of laptops to students studying in professional courses , project for transportation of students from remote areas to school (Gothrasarathy ) , tuition centres in colonies (Samuhya Padanamuri) . Besides Model Residential School , the department is also running Pre-primary school in Attappady.

One Model Residential School for Girls is functioning in Attapady.   210 Students from 5th standard to 10th are studying in this institution with 35 students in each class. During 2017-18, Rs.1.53 crore has been allotted for the functioning of the Scheme. One new MRS at Agali has been sanctioned (Tentative) by Govt. of India during 2017-18.

Under this insurance scheme, iniated during 2017-18, for providing education and social security to girl children, 35 children from Attappady have been identified and brought under the scheme.

 

 

To ensure proper education to tribal children, one educated tribal youth (men or women) preferably with TTC/B.Ed qualification from the same locality with knowledge in tribal dialect and Malayalam is selected and trained to function as teacher/education facilitator in all Primary Schools according to the strength of tribal students. Along with teaching, these teachers are entrusted to addressing the language issues of tribal children, reducing drop outs and ensuring cent per cent enrolment, intensive coaching of tribal students, acting as social worker and facilitator. As per the scheme 241 qualified tribal youth were appointed in Wayanad district during current financial year An amount of Rs. 4 crores is earmarked  for the scheme during 2017-18.

Steps have already been taken to implement this scheme in 26 schools in Attappady also.

 

Literacy rate of tribes are very poor and it makes drop out in the schools of tribal areas.  To solve this problem and to create ambience for education in hamlets, department has proposed to start the Community Study Centre in the state during 2016-17.  One educated tribal youth from same society will be selected and who will work as a facilitator and social worker.  The Centre will function in the already existing community hall or similar structure in the hamlet.  The Centre provide computer with internet, LED TV, furniture, reading materials etc.  30 students can be accommodated in each centre.  Light refreshment will also be provided to the students.

The centre will be started functioning at 15 colonies in Attappadi  ie. Paloor, Melemulli, Ummathampadi, Karathoor, Kallakkara ,Sholayoor, VarakamPadi, Nallashinka, Bhoothivazhi, Karara, Nakkupathi Oore, Adiyakandi Oore Ilachvazhi, Kathirampathi, Mamana.

Special Activities Monitored By Nodal Officer, Tribal Health, Attappady 

  • Follow up of SAM and SUW children through special task force by monitoring bi-weekly. Special attention is given for monitoring in take of EDSF, regarding feeding from AW, home available feed, care by parents, frequent de-worming, regular follow up in NRC etc.
  • Follow up of MAM children by field workers monthly to ensure feeding from AW and home.
  • Monitoring of pregnant women; those with recent EDC are brought to GTSH Kottathara two weeks prior to their date in-order to prevent home delivery. ST promoters, ICDS workers, Kudumbasree animators, Excise staff and Janamythri police help in shifting patients.
  • Monitoring of IUGR mothers; by admitting in GTSH after six months of pregnancy for a period of minimum 2 months to get special nutritious food which include traditional Raypittu which is supplied by NRLM.
  • Follow up of babies discharged from SNCU on day-8, 1-month, 3-month, 6-month and 1-year.
  • Follow up of babies discharged from labour room on day- 3, 7, 14, 21, 28, 42 days as home based new born care through field staff.
  • Follow up of mobile medical units to give special attention for the care of malnourished children and ANC’s in remote areas.

This 100 bedded hospital provides the following services to tribal and non tribal of Attappady.
